Levels and subjects I teach: GCSE: Computer Science A-Level: Computer Science, Maths Exam Board Experience: Edexcel, OCR About me: I am a driven, enthusiastic and hard-working individual. I have been underestimated by my school at GCSE and A-Level, as I achieved far greater grades than they predicted. I am excellent at Maths and Computer Science; and through my cognition, I will be able to explain key concepts in detail so that students walk away from each session with new acquired knowledge and understanding.

Lindsay Godden
I believe that teaching is an honour and a privilege and I am passionate about helping students to achieve their learning goals in a fun and positive way. The key is instilling self-believe through thoughtful and engaging lessons, insisting upon hard work and commitment so that students are always the best that they can be. When I first meet a student, I like to learn all about them: their objectives and aspirations for the future and how I can help them reach them, also their learning style and some of their interests and pastimes so that we can build up a strong rapport and make the lessons as relevant and interesting as possible. In my spare time, I love writing and have published a book on Amazon. Life is all about learning and growth and I am an avid reader of self-development books. I have four children and a cat and love spending time with my family walking in the mountains of Spain or enjoying some downtime by the ocean. I am very much looking forward to walking a little part of your learning journey with you.

Tutoring for the SATs

What are the SATs?

The SATs (which stands for ‘Standardised Assessment Tests’) are exams conducted in state primary schools in England in Year 6, when students are 11 years old. They are designed to assess knowledge and understanding of the national curriculum in both English and mathematics.

The SATs measure how much progress a child has made at primary school and their readiness for secondary school. They are also a way to measure schools, ensuring they have met educational standards.

Your child will receive a scaled score between 80 and 120 for each test completed. A score of 100 (or more) means they have met (or exceeded) the expected standard. While your child cannot fail their SATs, they can underachieve by not reaching the expected standard.

What subjects are covered in the SATs?

The English SAT tests reading comprehension, grammar, punctuation and spelling. The maths exam assesses mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills in areas such as arithmetic, geometry and algebra.

Pupils no longer sit a science SAT. Instead, their understanding is assessed by teachers against the national standards.

Why are the SATs important?

The SATs show the progress your child has made throughout their primary education. It is essential that they have a core understanding of all the topics covered as they are the foundation for learning throughout their school career.

They are also an introduction to formal exams, which can be helpful when it comes future exams such as GCSEs.

Almost all secondary schools group children into sets or streams based on their academic ability, and SATs results may be used as part of the decision-making process, as well as for making future grade predictions.

Preparing your child for the SATs

Some children find the prospect of the SATs stressful and worry that they will let their parents and teachers down if they don’t perform well. Preparation is vital if they are to approach the exams with confidence and perform to the best of their abilities.

A SATs tutor can offer one-on-one support that is personalised to your child’s needs as well as provide a structured study plan with a focus on any learning gaps.

At GoStudent, we will match your child to an experienced SATs tutor with an excellent understanding of the material that they are teaching and a proven track record of success.

The SATs tutor can provide guidance on the exam format, supply revision materials and practice tests, and provide detailed feedback on progress. They can also work with your child on their time management skills by asking them to sit a practice test under timed conditions.

They will work with your child to create positive learning experiences that will have effects far beyond their SATs exams and set them up for a smooth transition to secondary school.
