About me

GCSE: Maths Exam board exp: AQA/Edexcel Experience with: KS3/GCSE Experience with disabilities: Dyslexia Preferred student age group: GCSE About me: I am a mature student currently studying an MSc in physics at the University of Surrey and I have a BSc in physics from The University of Sheffield. After my degree, me and my partner moved to Brighton as she works full time at the Sussex Eye Hospital. As an adult returning to education to study at GCSE level, I understand what it is like starting with absolutely no experience in a subject. Being diagnosed with dyslexia during my degree, I have found that there are certain methods to the teaching I received which strengthened my skills in physics. Being able to explain a complex model as simple as possible, in my opinion is one of the greatest strengths in getting a firm step into learning a subject. I plan to apply this idea to how I teach, as well as providing advanced content to help students achieve their goals. Tutoring style: My tutoring is very structured with many examples. This is important for mapping the structure of a subject (linking it together) and learning the subject by problem solving. It is also very important to have context, even within mathematics. It’s great to give a reason why a student is learning a particular section or even better give an application of the skills they have learnt. One brilliant example I had during my degree was with fractions being divided by zero and the collapse of the Tacoma bridge in Washington (highly recommend taking a look at a video of it). Hobbies and interests: Aside from studying physics, I like to read books on physics and watch videos related to physics. I also play video games (when I get some free time) and have done so since being a child. I play video games socially with friends and with my partner. I think video games are a brilliant way to improve cognitive skills as they require you to problem solve various puzzles (even sometimes in a short time frame). For exercise, I really enjoy cycling and here living in Brighton is brilliant for this because Brighton has a very long shore road. My webcam even includes my bicycle hanging up behind me! Another few fun things me and my partner like to do is playing board games, watching films, and watching tv series.
