Education

Relevant qualifications: A Level Economics- strong A* grade A Level Mathematics- strong A grade As an economics undergraduate I studied a range of microeconomic, macroeconomic and econometric units, also studying units such as labour, industrial and behavioural economics. Industrial economics was particularly captivating, expanding greatly upon concepts such as collusion and integration touched on at A Level. In my degree, I used mathematics every day to understand economic and econometric theory and to solve problems. Calculus (differentiation, integration), probability, mathematical modelling, statistics and logarithmic equations are fundamental to economics and these are distinct strengths of mine through years of experience using them every day. That said, I have a well-rounded, strong knowledge of mathematics at all levels and can assist students at even the most basic level (KS1, KS2 etc), explaining the fundamentals simply and in a manner easy to understand, or I can bolster confidence in a KS3/GCSE/A Level student’s understanding of trigonometry, for example. As for economics itself, I have a strong understanding of both microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as fiscal & monetary policy. Whether a student is concerned with externalities, vertical integration, the economics of developing countries or the labour market, I have them covered. While strong knowledge and application of that knowledge is essential to perform well in an economics exam, examiner expectations are somewhat rigid for GCSE and A Level economics, and understanding what they look for and how they reward answers is of vital importance. I can prepare the student so that they know how to structure their answer and enter their exam with confidence.

About me

Lower level (KS1, KS2, KS3, 11+): Maths GCSE: Maths, Economics A Level: Maths, Economics Exam board experience: AQA, Edexcel (strongest familiarity), OCR Languages: English (native) Preferred student age group: Any A little about me… Hey there! I’m Danny. Final year University of Bristol economics student, due to graduate this year. I provide tuition in mathematics at all levels up to A Level including GCSE, 11+, and primary, and economics at GCSE and A Level. I endeavour to keep lessons engaging, working through problems both through individual demonstrations but also asking the student for their input so that we solve problems jointly. This helps to focus attention, improving understanding and keeps learning interesting. I employ a range of didactic techniques, including spaced repetition, active recall and interleaving into my teaching style. Maths and economics build on themselves, and so I always ensure the student has strong fundamentals before building on more advanced material, helping them to fill in the blanks where necessary. Outside of my academic/professional life, I love to spend time socialising with friends and engaging in my hobbies. Three years ago I took up fencing, which is one of the best decisions I have made! A fantastic sport attracting people from all walks of life and it is something I am passionate about. I also have an eclectic taste in film- I watch films from almost any genre including action, sci-fi, fantasy and spaghetti westerns. I also love to read, whether for self-improvement or to immerse myself in a story. My favourite genre of novel is fantasy, and favourites include The Name of the Wind, Six of Crows and Happy Potter series. Aside from these interests, I also have a long-standing interest in gaming (ever since I was two years old). Additionally I enjoy chess, cooking and travel!
